British rule India for 200 years. During the reign of 200 years. British badly looted India. When they left India, they left India with illiteracy and poverty. Our national leaders come forward and build the foundation for a great nation.
Essay on Poverty in India
A new India which will be prosperous and well educated. After 75 years of independence can we say India is prosperous and well educated. The answer is sad no. No matter what policy we adopt, it has increased economic disparity instead of removing it.
Rich is becoming richer and poor is becoming poorer. Poverty is still a huge problem in India. Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi quoted “Poverty is the worst form of Violence.”
No doubt, that India has made rapid progress in the field of Science, Economy, Industrialization, and sports.
India has a good reputation at the global level. But despite this, the dark reality of India is that the poverty rate of India is increasing day by day.
Poverty is a social curse. Poor people don’t get enough food, good clothes, a proper house, and good education. They don’t get respect from society. They live miserable lives. They even don’t get proper medical facilities. They live in slum areas where sanitation and disposal facilities are very poor.
Because of this, they are more vulnerable to diseases. Living in poverty is almost like living in hell. Due to lack of money, they don’t get exposure to good educational facilities. As a result, they remain unemployed and unemployment gives rise to even more poverty and this cycle keeps going on there is no escape.
What is the main cause of poverty in India?
The answer to this question is the increasingly urban population of India. The people in villages are migrating toward cities in search of employment. Most of these people are farmers.
The occupation of farming is dependent on nature. Due to global warming and sudden change in climate irregular rainfall are common in India. Due to irregular rainfall, farmers have to face great losses due to the wastage of crops. Many farmers commit suicide. The farmers are exhausted from farming as an occupation. Hence, in search of better ways to earn money they are shifting towards cities.
The problem of cities in India is that they are not able to hold such a large amount of population. The cities are overcrowded. People are not able to get high-paid jobs, which suits their qualification. For survival in big cities, people do low-paid jobs and small-scale businesses. That gave rise to poverty.
The reason behind the poverty of India is that its poor education system. Education is a tool for the economic development of the country. India’s education system is poor and corrupt. The great Indian scholar swami Vivekananda urged that for India “Education is a man-making mission”. Grievously we have to say for India “Education is the money-making machine”.
We see corrupt politician establishes an educational institution by misusing their political power and creates degree holders without any job skills. The literacy rate of India is increased since independence but in rural areas, education facilities are still very poor.
Even the IIT’s of India is not performing as per the expectation. Teachers and politicians are interested in earning money and not creating the future of the country. This gives rise to a large number of graduates without essential job skills. Because of this, the percentage of educated unemployed youth is very high in the country.
Casteism is also one of the reasons behind the poverty of India. In ancient India, the Indian society was divided into four Varna, which were based on the type of work people used to do. This gave rise to different caste in India. The people of low caste were totally deprived of education and they used to do low-level jobs like sweeping roads and cleaning gutters.
Solution of Poverty in India
A society with a different class is a natural phenomenon I mean that in every society rich and poor exist. However, the problem arises when the rich remain rich and the poor cannot become rich.
The classes in society should be flexible, not rigid. We should give every individual an opportunity to rise irrespective of caste, religion, and gender.
Poverty is a social problem and every problem has a solution. If we want to eradicate poverty in India. We must first reform our education system. Education should be provided to each citizen of the country free of cost. Education does not mean the ability to read and write only. It means the ability to think logically and take the right decision. Education should enable students to earn their livelihood.
India ranks 2nd in terms of population and 7 in terms of land area the 17.7% of the total population of the world live in India, on the other hand, the area of India is only about 2.4% of the total world area. Consequently, the population density in India is very high. We have limited resources but our population is increasing beyond limits.
Hence, population planning and resource planning are need in today’s Indian society.
To eradicate poverty in India. We must ignite the spirit of national integration in India.
National integration means the feeling of we among the different people in the nation. We should consider ourselves Indian first not Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Jains, or Buddhists. If India remains divided in the name of caste or religion then we will keep on fighting each other and remain poor and backward.
