Main Causes Of World war- 1
There were some reasons behind world war 1, All of which we are going to discuss here step-wise.
1. Contemporaneous situation in Europe before starting of world war 1:
Russia was the world’s most big nation by its area, which was expanded into both continents like Europe and Asia. Most of the European countries were under Monarchy while colonization existed in Asian and African countries.
In the European continent, some powerful monarchies existed, while some powers existed like Russia, the Ottoman Empire, etc. While Austria- Hungary empire was under the archduke Franz Ferdinand.
Balkan was a province that was so much politically unstable, The countries under the Balkan province were Bosnia, Serbia, and Herzegovina. Balkan province nations didn’t want Franz Ferdinand’s interference in their province, that’s why they were struggling with Franz Ferdinand. Due to this many times dispute and small incidences were happening in the Balkan province against Ferdinand.
Overall this kind of contemporaneous situation was existing in the Europe continent, which was creating ground for war. It was somewhere responsible to create a war, as this kind of background is included in the cause of war.
2. Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand:
As earlier, we have discussed the Balkan province’s actual situation, Where Austria-Hungarian ruler Franz Ferdinand was involved. Balkan province was under Franz Ferdinand which thing didn’t like Balkan nationalists, they didn’t want to live under Ferdinand’s rule.
Day by day situation was going out of control and the result came out from this situation on June 28, 1914, a brutal Assassination of Franz Ferdinand with his wife happened.
Balkan nationalist and activist Gavrilo Princip was the person who was responsible for this assassination, And this incident was the first spark of the first World War.
Soon after this incident throughout the world blame started to come over Serbia, now the Austria-Hungary situation was totally filled with dissatisfaction. As their people totally came into action mode, they started the movement for justice for Franz Ferdinand’s assassination.
Now struggle for power had been converted into an internal war between close countries in Europe. So this is the second cause because of first world war spark had created.
3. Kaiser Wilhelm- 2 Role Into the war:
Neighbor country of Austria-Hungary was Germany, Whose emperor was Kaiser Wilhelm 2. After the brutal assassination of Franz Ferdinand, Wilhelm came into action. Russia was supporting Serbia which is why the German emperor was supporting Austria-Hungary
Russian support for Serbia was a clear indication of to strong battle against Austria-Hungary. Somewhere Austria-Hungary was feared by Russia and future alliances.
Meanwhile, German emperor Kaiser Wilhelm had given assurance to Austria-Hungary, that if war like situation will be created then Germany will support them. Ottoman empire was a part of central power that was surely going to stand up with Germany, and Austria-Hungary into war.
One kind of alliance was going to create for war in Europe because Austria-Hungary had already been assured by Germany of support. And this thing had made them more strong.
So, the German emperor’s support for Austria-Hungary and Russian support for Serbia had pushed most of the European countries into a future war-like situation. This was the third reason behind world war 1.
4. Harsh Ultimatum To Serbia:
Due to the German emperor’s support, the Austria-Hungary monarchy became strong. so into revenge for their emperor’s assassination they sent a harsh ultimatum to Serbia.
The terms of that ultimatum were so much harsh that could not be possible to complete for Serbia. This incident was the fourth reason behind world war 1.
After this ultimatum, European empires were moved towards alliance and it was a sign of future war.
5. War Groups/Alliances:
Soon after the harsh ultimatum from Austria-Hungary to Serbia, The war groups or alliances had started to become ready for war.
Alliances were as Austria-Hungary, Germany, Bulgaria and an ottoman empire were the first group or alliance, while Great Britain, Russia, France, Italy, Romania, Japan, and the United States were the second group or alliance.
So standing such alliances in front of each other was surely and clear indication for future world wars. This was the fifth reason for world war 1, Where multiple countries were involved against each other by the alliance.
6. First World War Begins:
As per the given above causes, The two alliances came into the battleground. And a strong war was started between them, which has well known in world history as world war 1.
